Minister of Public Works
Chile’s Public Works Minister, Juan Andrés Fontaine, has a business degree as well as a degree in Economics and Engineering from the Pontifical Catholic University. He has a Master’s Degree in Economics and PhD studies at the University of Chicago.
He served as Economy Minister in 2010-11, and was chief economist of the Central Bank of Chile from 1984-90. Actively participating in the Chilean public debate, he has been an economic adviser to several presidential candidates, is a columnist for important newspapers and is a frequent speaker at conferences held both in Chile and abroad.
Additionally, Mr. Fontaine has been president or member of the board of directors of large companies and banks. He is also a professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, has worked as an academic at the University of Chile and as visiting professor at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), and is the author of several technical publications.
