Minister of Economy, Development and Tourism
Chile’s Minister of Economy, Development and Tourism, José Ramón Valente, has an economics degree from the University of Chile and an MBA from the University of Chicago. He has worked as an advisor and director of Chilean and foreign companies, as well as a columnist in various media.
He was a professor of Economics and International Finance at the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Chile as well as at Gabriela Mistral University. In the last two decades he has actively participated in public policy discussions regarding the economy and especially the capital market.
Mr. Valente advised the governments of presidents Eduardo Frei and Ricardo Lagos on capital market reforms. He was a consultant for the IDB’s Inter-American Investment Corporation and director of the SEP, the state enterprise holding’s system of public companies, between 2012 and 2014.
