President and Executive Director, LAVCA
Cate Ambrose is President and Executive Director of LAVCA, the Association for Private Capital Investment in Latin America. LAVCA is a non-profit membership organization with over 190 member firms that control assets in excess of US$65b, directed at capitalizing Latin American businesses. Members include leading global and Latin American fund managers, family offices, global sovereign wealth funds, tech investors, corporates, and international pension plans.
Prior to joining LAVCA, Ms. Ambrose was Chief of Advocacy for the Commission on Legal Empowerment of the Poor, a United Nations initiative co-chaired by Peruvian economist Hernando de Soto and former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. Until 2005, Ms. Ambrose was Executive Director of Programs at The Economist. She is also on the Board of Directors for Youth INC and a member of the Bretton Woods Committee.
She holds an MPA in International Economic Policy from Columbia University, and received her BA in Latin American studies from St. Lawrence University and the University of Madrid.
